India Considers Joining Group of seven G7 Piloted ‘Climate Club’ to Boost Climate Action

India is reportedly considering joining the ‘Climate Club,’ an environmental initiative started by the G7 to promote stronger climate action. The club’s three pillars are advancing ambitious and transparent climate policies, supporting substantial industrial decarbonisation, and encouraging international cooperation towards a just transition. The G7 (Group of Seven) is a forum of seven of the world’s largest and most advanced economies – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

World Thalassemia Day-8 May 2023

World Thalassemia Day is a global healthcare event commemorated every year on May 8th to raise awareness about the condition among the local public and policymakers, apart from supporting and strengthening the morale of the victims who have battled for years with this fatal disease. Thalassaemia is an inherited (genetically transmitted) autosomal recessive disorder acquired from parents (either or both). 

This year, 2023, the World Thalassemia Day Theme is "Be Aware. Share. Care: Strengthening Education to Bridge the Thalassaemia Care Gap".

Polavarapu M Prasad to be next Coal India chief

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PSEB) recommended Central Coalfields CMD Polavarapu Mallikharjuna Prasad as the next Chairman and Managing Director of Coal India (CIL). Prasad is expected to take charge of India’s largest coal miner accounting for almost 80 per cent of the mined commodity from July 1.

3 new conservation reserves declared in Rajasthan

The state government declared three areas 1. Sorsan in Baran, 2.  Khichan in Jodhpur and 3.Hamirgarh in Bhilwara — as conservation reserves. The new reserves are expected to protect rare and endangered species and provide a safe haven for migratory birds.

Belgium firm to launch biodiesel project in Ayodhya soon

The city of Ayodhya has been chosen for a two-year pilot project aimed at producing biodiesel from waste. Belgium-based company Vito is expected to launch the project in Ayodhya soon. The company, which focuses on clean technology and sustainable development, has already started working on the project, according to officials.
