MBBS Admission for NRI Students
in India
Opportunities for NRI Students:
MBBS Admission in India
The NRI quota is specifically reserved for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) aspiring to pursue MBBS studies in India. To be eligible for the NRI quota, candidates must clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a national-level entrance exam for medical colleges in the country.
Admission to MBBS courses in both private and government medical colleges is granted based on the NEET UG score. The seats are divided into 15% for the All India quota and 85% for the state quota. Additionally, Deemed Universities in India and some state government medical colleges provide admission to NRI students under the quota established by the Medical Council of India.
Some states in India, such as Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Puducherry, provide NRI quota admissions in government medical colleges. The percentage of seats reserved for NRIs in these government medical colleges differs from state to state.
Securing a seat through the NRI quota can be highly competitive due to the limited number of available seats and a large number of NRIs and OCIs interested in pursuing MBBS in India.
If you are an NRI or OCI with a desire to study MBBS in India, it is advisable to commence your preparation for the NEET exam at the earliest opportunity. Additionally, researching the different states that offer NRI quota admissions in government medical colleges will enhance your chances of securing a seat in a government medical college.
